Name?

Anna Keenan

What do I do?

I am a photographer.

Why do you do what you do?

I do what I do because I love the magic of capturing a moment in time. Creating a story. Inciting a conversation.

What’s your background?

I went to University and studied Media Arts, I majored in film and received my BFA from Ryerson Polytechnic University.

What role does the artist have in society?

Depends on what type of artist you are. An artist is meant to create and show us something about ourselves or the world.

What work do you most enjoying doing?

Dancing! I love the feelings it evokes.

What themes do you pursue?

Emotion, Strength, Integrity, Passion.

Why art?

It completes me, it allows me to explore other aspects of my personality.

What is an artistic outlook on life?

To see the world from a different vantage point and ask questions.

What memorable responses have you had to your work?

To be told that my work has touched or inspired someone is the greatest compliment.

What do you like about your work?

I shoot from the heart. I love honest moments.

Should art be funded? And Why?

Yes, absolutely. The enrichment of the public through the arts is a very worthwhile government endeavor (much more worthwhile, than, for example, spending trillions of public dollars on a war no one supports).

Art provides freedom of speech, entertainment and culture.

What makes you angry?

Violence and Ignorance

What superpower would you have and why?

Invisibility because of the knowledge I could obtain.

Name something you love, and why.

My family – they lift me up and keep me grounded.

Favourite or most inspirational place?

So far, I’d have to say St Vincent. It was my trip to St Vincent that started me on this journey.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given?

To allow myself to make mistakes. To have integrity with everything I do and always stay true to my values.

Professionally, what’s your goal?

To be able to travel the world taking photos and continue learning about other cultures.

What wouldn’t you do without?

My Family!
